Helping Women and Children
in Uganda Survive and Thrive

You Can Help Make a Difference in Uganda

Women and Children in Uganda have gotten a raw deal. Disease and sin have left many families with no father and no way to sustain a healthy life

Heshima invites women in and teaches them marketable skills so that they can survive and their families thrive. In the process the women are served, restored, empowered, and strengthened.

How Women and Children in Uganda Can Thrive

1

Women Join Our Community

Each woman who comes to know about Heshima typically does through the life change of a friend or neighbor. When they do, and see that they too can thrive, they apply to be apart of the Heshima family. After application, women go through a home interview process and start attending bible study and discipleship events at our office.

2

Women Enter Skills Training

Women enter our Monday, Wednesday, and Friday skills training where they learn valuable skills for business, as well as financial training, well women care, and the joy of Jesus as our precious gift and savior. They perfect their skills over 12 months and end up in an internship before graduation.

3

Women and Children in Uganda Win!

After they have passed their exams, our women graduate with the blessings of a new sewing machine or supplies to start a home-based salon. We have graduated over 75 women from our classes and as many as 70 have thriving businesses and can afford their children’s school fees and home expenses.

Stories of Transformation

Deborah

Deborah had devoted her life to a cult. She had no hope for her life or her children’s lives. Since attending classes with Heshima, Deborah has left the cult and has given her life to Christ. She faithfully attends classes and is actively studying to become a tailor.

Agatha

Agatha came to Heshima with a friend. She struggled mightily with alcohol abuse and was neglecting her family. Agatha tells us now that she hates alcohol. She’s a faithful attendee is has completed the classes and is now working as a seamstress and tailor.

Judy

Judy walked for an hour to a job where she worked 10 hours per day. She earned about five dollars per day. Not nearly enough to take care of her children and siblings. Judy now works for Heshima and is making a sustainable wage, providing for her children and siblings.
